Gulf Harbour – Spitfire is now able to operate out of Auckland Central or Gulf Harbour – Gulf Harbour allows us to do day sailing trips to Tiri Tiri Matangi Islands (weather permitting) and  to Kawau Island. Pickups and drop offs from either loaction are possible.

Duration 15-30 hours

Distance approx. 125 nautical miles

This race is a similar duration to the coastal classic but has a few more turning points.

Spitfire is first over the line by 5 mins to win division 2 of the SSANZ 2 handed 60 mile race (on line). This was a fresh race with winds on board registered as high as 39knots and boat speed as high as 15 knots. The course was from the start off Northern Leading buoy (near Rangitoto) to Gannet Rock – (near the bottom of Waiheke) to Flat Rock (off Kawau), around Motuora Island (in Whangaparoa Bay), to finish off Orakei. The nke autopilot and instruments made light work of the heavy conditions, see the SSANZ website here

Waikalabubu bay on Motutapu Island yesterday – 1.5 hrs approx from Auckland. TiriTiri Matangi Bird Sanctuary is in the distance.

What a fantastic day on the harbour, a stunning winters day with an icy Southerly.

20 may

Today was the first of the grab one 3 hour intro to sailing sessions. A glorius Sunday emerged after the nights rain with hardly anyone on the harbour at 9am.  Freya, Anni, Olivia and Dave did a great job of sailing Spitfire all over the harbour from Bean Rock to Kauri Point in conditions ranging from 5 knots to 20knots(20knts is what you’d call fresh)- a  fantastic time was had by all.

Returned from a 10 day cruise last week – Kawau – Gt Barrier Island: Port Fitzroy, Katherine Bay, Whangapoa(seaward side Gt Barrier), Rakitu (Arid Island), Tryphena, Waiheke, Ponui – return.

Highlights were Wallabys on Kawau, Rakitu (east coast Gt Barrier) – always! – small hammerhead sharks off the East Coast of Gt Barrier, Whangapoa Beach – pristine! wine tasting at Man O war winery on Waiheke, snapper fishing. Will post some photos in the gallery soon.

Today our website goes live approximately 18months after the initial business conception and purchase of the boat. Big thanks to Michael Brennan from Freaquency for the site design – we hope you like it.
